Treatment Four

Ellen walked again today to the hospital for her fourth chemotherapy treatment. She was in very good spirits, in large part from the wonderful friends who accompanied her. It is a beautiful day here.

She will spend all day in the hospital, and come home tonight to rest.

We hope that everyone will stay in touch. It is a time to appreciate the importance of the ties that we have with friends and family, and our love for everyone who has walked this road before.

Treatment 5 will be on June 5. We hope to see all of you for another lovely walk.

    Dear Ellen and Luke,
You were in my thoughts this evening at 17.30 hours, which was when Ellen had her fourth dose of nectar. I did Spanish from 1959-61 and understand that your 5th day of nectar will be June 5, Denmark’s Constitution Day, Grundlovsdag, on which we go to the ballot stations for elections to the EU. Made a note of your day of nectar in my diary. … I will be going to Edinburgh for a translation workshop and shortly afterwards, I hope to go to NYC to meet publishers. Could you let me have your home telephone number, so that I can speak to you? Sending you lots of healing light and love, Anna

    1. It is so good to hear from you. Ellen is very pleased. For the next few days she is too tired for phone calls. She is not even eating. But I would like to hear from you! My office number is +1 (970) 641 4605 and my cell is +1 (970) 275 1455.

They say that no news is good news. Is everything o.k. at your end in Gunnison? Thinking of you and sending you much love, Anna

    2. My stay in Scotland will be short. Will be there full day on June 25. My stay in NYC will probably be later. No dates set and no visa application form sent yet. Just seen my dermatologist regarding my skin cancer and will visit hospital surgeon next week for what we call “kontrol.” Like you both, I am just so grateful for what can, and is being done, for me. My dermatologist is a wonderful person. Sending lots of love your way, Anna

        Dear Ellen and Luke,
How is Ellen doing today? Is she feeling less exhausted? Is she able to get some food down? Maté can also fortify her.
Thinking of you both on a sunny day here.
Lots of love to you both,
        Anna

  3. Ellen & Sr Luke…

As one who is “walk[ing] this road,” I know how good it is to have steadfast friends, a loving, supportive spouse, sweet doggies snuggling on the bed, and a positive attitude that is aware of the myriad blessings of life. We have good friends—including you 2–and good attitudes. No dogs—but I used to have the best fox terrier in the world. Now we have twin 2.5-yr-old granddaughters which are better. Perhaps what’s sweetest part of walking this road is doing it with a remarkable spouse. Those who have found this sweetness and joy later in life may appreciate it more than those for whom it’s been a given throughout their adult lives. So much to celebrate. So much to fight for. So much to share in both the fight and the celebration. Be strong in your love for one another. Keep walking! Ben & Betty
